An oil by rail threat is a threat to us all!
Companies like WesPac and Valero want to build massive new oil terminals to bring exploding oil trains into the San Francisco Bay Area and out through the entire country. And refineries there are proposing a slew of expansion projects to process dirtier, toxic, volatile, carbon intensive, and corrosive oil including Bakken crude from North Dakota and tar sands from Canada.
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) oversees permits for these new oil projects in all nine San Francisco Bay Area counties. The BAAQMD Board has the power to withhold these permits until new regulations are in place that will protect our communities from the oil industry’s fiery plans.Tell the Bay Area Air Quality Management District: No New Oil Infrastructure!
The Air District needs to know that we are counting on them to protect public health, safety, and the climate over profits
. Their decisions will impact not only the bay but ALL rail routes sprawling across North America.
Petition to protect railway towns from oil projects
We, residents and allies of the San Francisco Bay Area, call on the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to take proactive measures to protect community health and safety by rejecting ALL new permits for oil infrastructure until cumulative impacts of the projects on public health, air quality, and safety are fully assessed. The Air District must consider the total infrastructure and refinery impacts of changing crude quality and transport modes for projects proposed by Valero, WesPac, Phillips 66, Chevron, Tesoro, Shell, and Kinder Morgan.
